Solutions in Communication technology
The sensors and the associated forwarding of information to various systems form one of the most central components of mechatronic systems. Sensors can record a wide variety of physical parameters and then send them by wired connection or wirelessly – compressed or in real time. Such systems are generally known today as IoT (Internet of Things) in an optional combination with battery technology.
For example, we develop and manufacture sensors and communication systems for the real-time recording of human movements, the combined wireless energy transmission with data over distances of up to a few millimetres, the modulation of data on power lines, camera-based high-speed surface scans and real-time, multi-dimensional precision sensors for robotics.

Solutions in Communication technology
When it comes to sensors, the most cost-efficient and technically necessary solution is selected based on the application. For us, it goes without saying that the solution is equipped with a suitable enclosure including power supply or battery technology. Examples of some implemented or available technologies at Digital Elektronik:
Position & movement
With the help of sensors, we determine the position as well as the change in position via displacement or rotation very precisely and quickly. Our focus here is primarily on merging several sensor sources into one meaningful signal. An example of this is the determination of the position or spatial orientation of body extremities by combining gyroscopes and acceleration sensors.
Optical sensors
In the case of optical sensors, the spectrum ranges from simple brightness sensors to complex camera systems. For example, a medium (e.g. air or water) can be determined cost-effectively with the help of emitted light and reflections. Furthermore, camera systems and the necessary computing power enable us to record the surface topography of moving objects in the 0.01 mm range and to make instant decisions based on pattern recognition.
Touch & gesture
With more and more products, digitization leads to the need for integrated operation. Switches and buttons have the disadvantage of an actuated mechanism. Operation using touch surfaces and the associated haptic feedback eliminates these sources of error. In addition, we integrate complete high-resolution multi-touch screens into our industrial solutions, which are calibrated and installed in our factory.
Further areas of application
In addition to the solutions listed above, we also implement sensors for temperature, distance and other physical quantities. We have also successfully implemented solutions for a multi-dimensional high-precision sensor using several strain gauges.

Our projects in sensor and communication technology are diverse. I am particularly proud that, thanks to our experience, we always achieve the most cost-efficient solution.
Stable Communication
Similar to wired transmission technology, wireless technology is also based on a physical layer. Energy and data can be transmitted together over distances of up to a few millimetres. The wireless technologies range from simple proprietary optical solutions to Bluetooth (BLE) to WLAN or 4G/5G. In addition, special energy-efficient solutions are possible with the help of energy harvesting or data transmission over long distances with LORA.
A stable and reliable communication path is crucial for forwarding data from sensors to systems. We differentiate between wired and wireless systems, which are possible either in a direct connection or in a network.

A wide variety of protocols can be used on the basis of a physical layer. In principle, it is also possible to modulate data on powerlines. Proprietary protocols are used as transmission protocols for simple applications. These range from RS485 to USB or Ethernet, for example, as requirements increase.
